A SPOOK-ta-BOO-lous Family-Friendly Guide to Halloween

Time to get your Spook-tober spirit on for Halloween!

Ever wondered why Halloween is celebrated on 31 October every year?

It is said that Halloween originated from Samhain, the ancient Gaelic harvest festival first celebrated in Celtic countries, such as Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, where people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. Some of the Samhain traditions were then incorporated into All Saints Day (1 November) to honour all saints. Thereafter, the evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later as Halloween.

Fast forward to the present, Halloween is celebrated with activities such as dressing up, carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating.

Here in Singapore, Halloween is gaining huge traction thanks to the inaugural Halloween Horror Nights organised by Universal Studios Singapore. Horrified as some may be, thrill-seekers certainly enjoy the spooky scarefest of vengeful ghosts and haunted houses.

For those of us who prefer a treat more than a trick, you came knocking on the right door. Scroll on for some family-friendly Halloween activities to kickstart that fab-boo-lous time of the year.
